Why Aren't Employees Often Promoted? Here Are the Top Nine Reasons Why This Happens

I was really excited when I got the promotion at work. I put in so many hours and had so much responsibility, it felt great to get recognition for my hard work. But what did I get? A banana! I’m not even joking, my boss gave me a banana on my last day of being an intern. What am I supposed to do with that? I didn’t even get to take it home with me, she said something about company policy or whatever.

I’ve been there, frustrated and feeling stuck. It’s not just you- it’s everyone. The world is changing fast, and the old ways of doing things are no longer working. So what can we do?

Here are Nine reasons why you may not be getting promotion:

1)  You don’t take action – this translates to “I’m too afraid.” Fear is a natural human emotion that protects us from danger, but when it gets in the way of our progress, fear becomes one of our biggest enemies; The minute you start thinking about what will happen if something goes wrong or even worse…what am I really risking here? You’ve lost sight on why exactly are doing anything at all. Remember your goal! Sure things may get tough sometimes (and they always have), but nothing worth having.

2) You’re lazy – if you want something bad enough, then you’ll do whatever it takes to get what you want

3) Your lack of ambition – sometimes people settle for their current situation because they’re afraid of being rejected for wanting more If you’re not happy with your current situation, it’s important to figure out what you want in life and if this is truly what you want.

3) You lack the necessary skills– there’s no need to panic. Everyone can learn new skills, practice them with real-life scenarios, and get people who can help you when you’re stuck;

4) Your attitude stinks – don’t blame everyone else for your failures. If you have a negative attitude, that will rub off on others around you too. Start thinking positive about yourself and how far you’d like to go in life;

5) You’re not hungry enough – stop looking at other people for inspiration and motivation; look within instead. What do you genuinely want to achieve each day? Set out a game plan and work towards it;

6) You’re not pushing yourself hard enough – sometimes, the best way to learn is by doing. Start somewhere, anywhere, just get started with something new or exciting. Also, keep in mind that if you’re comfortable with where you are in life right now, then there is no need to move forward;

7) You don’t believe in your abilities– most people can stand up in front of an audience for a while, but what they fear most is leading the crowd; people who succeed were able to convince themselves early on that they would make it. When things got tough, these same people got tougher. They didn’t whine or complain; they made things happen;

8) You choose to be ordinary– people who set out to do something special in life don’t settle for the norm. These are the type of people who do what they’ve always done and expect different results;

9) You lack confidence– there is no need to pretend that you know it all just because you’re good at what you do. Aspire to learn more about your craft by attending seminars and workshops, read books on self-improvement, hire someone who has already mastered your skillset, etc.;

Here’s what you need to do:

Stop worrying and start living! I know it sounds like something out of a cheesy infomercial but that doesn’t make it any less true. Don’t let your fears hold you back from achieving success, instead use them as fuel to work harder and smarter. If bad luck is holding you back then change your luck by changing your attitude about life. You have no control over winning the lottery but you do have control over how hard you work in your day-to-day life… so why not make it a daily habit?

You know what’s really hard in life? Not taking the right actions. As I’ve said before, when you’re ready to quit is when you should work harder. Just remember that obstacles are challenges and problems are opportunities, never give up no matter how bad things seem.

You can still go on living even if you lose everything but once you decide to quit then there’s no going back! So let this be your new mantra: I will continue to succeed for as long as I’m breathing!
