I Do This, And It Works: The Secret To Noticing Every Daily Miracle

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle― Albert Einstein

I used to be the kind of person who would brush off daily miracles. I would see a beautiful sunset and say to myself, “Wow, that’s pretty,” but never really stop to appreciate it. I would go about my day without noticing all of the amazing things happening around me. I was so caught up in my own world that I wasn’t paying attention to the beauty and magic surrounding me.

We all have them – those daily miracles that we barely take notice of. The sun shining just a little bit brighter, the birds singing a little more joyously, the stranger who holds the door open for us. It’s easy to pass these moments off as nothing special, but if we take the time to appreciate them, they can be life-changing. Today, I’m going to share with you my secret to noticing every daily miracle. Are you ready? Here it is: Pay attention. That’s it! When you’re really present and living in the moment, even the simplest things can become miraculous. So go ahead and give it a try – pay attention to what’s happening around you right now.

1. The smell of coffee , toast, or bacon in the morning when you wake up is a miracle. You will most likely not die if you don’t get to experience it every day. There are many people on this planet who don’t even have clean water to drink let alone coffee, toast or bacon for breakfast. So be grateful that you are able to enjoy at least one of these.

2. When you are driving along and all of a sudden there is available parking right in front of your destination, that’s a miracle! Some cities/towns even go as far as providing free benches and bus stops for people who would otherwise be walking. There aren’t many forms of transportation that can ensure that will happen consistently.

3. When you are having a conversation with someone, and they make an unexpected confession or revelation, that’s a miracle! People keep their thoughts to themselves most of the time because they fear judgment or rejection. But once in a while, you come across someone who isn’t afraid to let you know what’s on their mind, even if it means embarrassing themselves in front of strangers (you).

4. When you realize that you still have your wallet, purse, keys, etc., after leaving the house without them, that is a miracle! This usually results in panic, stress, and frustration, but when everything turns up safe and sound, it becomes one of the happiest moments ever.

5. When you find money inside your jacket pocket, at the bottom of your bag, or hidden behind something else.. that is a miracle! Even though it may seem like an insignificant amount to you, it most likely represents a couple of hours of someone’s hard work.

6. When you learn a new fact or concept and finally understand what was taught in class – this is a miracle! Imagine going through years of school constantly being confused about everything being taught with no hope of ever knowing what was going on. Now imagine that someone has just handed you the answer key to every test you will ever take from that point forward? Notable, isn’t it?

7. When there are no lines at the grocery store/bank/ post office etc .that’s a miracle! Think about how many people are trying to get the same items. You should be grateful because you have just beat at least a couple thousand other people to the punch line.

8. When you realize that your friends, family, neighbors, etc., haven’t changed much over the years. that’s a miracle! If everyone were different every few months, relationships would be complicated to maintain. Sometimes it takes reflecting back on our memories with these special people to see how they have grown and matured before our very eyes.

9. When there is no traffic on your way home from work/school/wherever you go regularly – that’s a miracle! Imagine having to deal with countless obstacles during rush hour almost every single day? No wonder why stress levels are through the roof for many people.

10. When you come across a situation that would typically not end well, but somehow it does – that’s a miracle! May you have received help from the most unlikely person, or perhaps you were able to get yourself out of trouble by some means? These are all beautiful events of chance and fortune – enjoy them while they last because life is full of unpredictable events of awesomeness!

I’m not a particularly religious person, but I do believe in the existence of miracles. Every day, I witness small miracles that I might take for granted if I didn’t pay attention. A baby giggling, the sun setting over the horizon, someone holding the door open for me – these are all everyday miracles that we often don’t notice because they’re so commonplace. But by simply paying more attention to my surroundings, I’ve found that life is full of magic if you’re open to seeing it. So today, I challenge you to look for the miracles in your life and appreciate them! They’re there whether you believe in them or not.
