Is it Possible to Duplicate Success?
If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you’ll achieve the same results- Tony Robbins
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, ” success breeds success.” But is it really possible to duplicate someone else’s success? I’m not so sure. In my experience, success is earned through hard work and dedication, and can never be truly duplicated. That said, I do believe that we can learn from others who have achieved success, and use their lessons to help us achieve our own goals. So what can we learn from successful people? Everything! Their tactics, strategies, mindset… the list goes on. So if you’re looking to achieve your own goals, study those who have already accomplished what you want to achieve, emulate their behavior, and put in the hard work necessary to succeed.
People ask me all the time if success is duplicable actually ‘duplicatable’ or if it’s all just luck…
I’d say it’s a little bit of BOTH.
Or to put it better, I’ll tell you one of my favorite definitions of LUCK.
It goes like this…
It’s the intersection of HARD WORK and OPPORTUNITY.
BUT if you don’t know WHAT to work on or HOW to “spot” opportunity…
It can seem like someone who got successful was fortunate.
If success is duplicable, then the business magazines are nothing but a complete waste of time and money (not to mention trees).
Success in the game of football is not duplicable. Victory in the game of basketball is not duplicable.
Success in baseball? Nope. Sure, some people make it to the top by working hard, putting in strict hours, all that stuff…but when they get where they’re going, what you see is what you get. It’s a random chance that confident, talented kids wind up with good coaches and teammates and ultimately win championships at the highest level. Those things just don’t come around very often.

Now take tennis: if all you do is hang around the courts and practice your serve until you’re 93 years old, chances are you won’t be Wimbledon champion. But if you watch players like Federer or Nadal, there is no doubt whatsoever that those guys could beat just about any player on the planet right now. They’re playing at such a high level that it has to be within the realm of possibility for almost anyone who works hard enough and long enough to get good at tennis.
How do we find out what we need to work on and spot the opportunities when they come along?
I don’t know much, but I know this…if success in any area were duplicatable, then every person could buy a lottery ticket, win it, get paid for it, and TA-DAH! They’re wealthy for life.
So if success is not duplicable, what are our chances?
Not very good, as the odds of winning the lottery are slim. If lottery tickets were as springy as dandelions, you might be able to play the game for a few months and walk away with enough money to retire on. You wouldn’t become wealthy, but at least your life would drastically improve.
How to SPOT opportunity
And if you did.
What if I told you there were two types of people in this world?
Those who see opportunity and take action… And those who don’t.
People in the first category are well compensated for their work, even if they’re doing it incorrectly! (They just get dismissed or “fail” quickly enough to limit the damage.)
On the other hand, the second group ends up with low pay and little potential for advancement (or themselves). Why is the second group of workers still at their job while the first has moved on to bigger things?
Because THE OPTIMAL PATH TO SUCCESS DOESN’T EXIST. It’s not out there on some map somewhere, where all you have to do is follow the instructions (and expense account), and you’ll wind up as a vice president or rich as Elon Musk. This is why people who see opportunity and take action get paid big time, even if they’re doing it wrong!
I mean by “wrong” is that those people who start businesses simply because they saw something that needed to be done are not always right. They might have started with the best intentions, but sometimes things don’t work out the way you expected them to. Maybe somebody already did it better than you could ever do it yourself…and maybe nobody wants to buy what you’re selling because there’s no demand for your product or service. Or maybe somebody else did exactly what you did for half what you’re charging…and now the only way to survive is to take your competitor’s prices.
What can you do? Well, I already told you what other people are doing: Making up new rules as they go, over and over again. So should you quit? No! It would be best if you didn’t quit because there’s one big difference between those who see opportunity and act on it… And those who don’t. The success of this “new” thing will make it OK that the first version was unprofitable. If you stay patient (and lucky), sooner or later, your wrong idea will grow into something amazing…
After all, nobody knows everything about EVERYTHING. That means that even though WE ALL start with limited knowledge and more than a few wrong ideas, we can always learn and improve. And there’s nothing better than learning and improving to accelerate the rate of success!
So keep getting better at what you do. Keep learning about everything …even if it means reading (or writing) articles like this one! And good luck in your business! I hope you make it… For your sake, for the sake of your family, and especially for the sake of people who would have benefited from whatever you sell or offer to do.
But let me ask you a question…
How are YOU going to spot the opportunities that come along? What are you doing today to double or triple your rate of success? Why aren’t these things already happening for you?

You might feel overwhelmed by all of the possibilities… But remember this: there’s nothing wrong with being an amateur. It doesn’t matter if tomorrow you’re a newbie and today you’re the CEO of a company with 50+ employees. All that matters is that you choose to take action and improve as you go!
As long as you keep learning, improving, and taking risks in all the right ways… You will succeed! And so in closing, I have to say this:
If YOU are ready to see opportunities where others don’t… If YOU are willing to go for it when so many others quit… Then YOU will never have an excuse for failing. The only thing holding YOU back from attaining your dreams is YOU. Get out there and start making it happen!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of duplication. The question is, can you really replicate success? There are many people who believe that if they copy your strategy and do what you did, they will achieve the same results. What these people don’t realize is that their own unique circumstances make it impossible to duplicate your efforts exactly as planned. In order for them to be successful where you were not, they need to change something significant in their approach–and this involves spending time and money on trial and error until they find an answer that works for them!
