Nature Still Prefers The Simple
About complexity... we think it makes us sophisticated, but nature's been laughing at us this whole time.
I was watching a tree the other day - just an ordinary tree in my neighborhood - and I realized something. That tree doesn't have a morning routine, doesn't optimize its growth strategy, doesn't journal about its goals. It just... grows.
Water. Sunlight. Time. That's it. Three things.
And it's been doing this dance for millions of years, perfectly, without a single productivity hack.
We've convinced ourselves that more is better. More features, more options, more strategies, more information. We build these elaborate systems - for our health, our relationships, our work - and then wonder why everything feels so damn exhausting. Meanwhile, the banyan tree is still just doing its thing, strong as ever.
What I've learned is the moment you start adding complexity, you're usually running from something simple you don't want to face.
Can't sleep? We create seventeen-step bedtime rituals when the answer might just be... go to bed earlier.
Relationship struggling? We read books and analyze communication styles when maybe we just need to listen more and talk less.
Nature doesn't overcomplicate because it can't afford to. A gazelle being chased by a lion doesn't have time for analysis paralysis - run or don't run, that's the whole decision tree. The river doesn't debate which path to take; it flows downhill. Always. Simple physics, profound results.
Now listen, I'm not saying complexity never has its place. Building a rocket, yeah, that's complex. Performing surgery, complex.
But brewing your morning coffee?
Finding meaning in your work?
Being present with someone you love?
Those are simple things we've dressed up in complicated clothing.
The wisest people I've met - and I mean truly wise, not just educated - they've all circled back to simplicity. They've climbed the mountain of complexity, seen the view from the top, and walked back down to appreciate the garden at the base. Because that's where life actually happens. In the simple moments. The ones we keep racing past while chasing something more elaborate.
You want to know what's radical these days? Doing one thing at a time. Eating when you're hungry. Sleeping when you're tired. Saying what you mean. Meaning what you say. It's almost revolutionary... because it's so simple it feels like we're missing something.
But we're not missing anything.
Nature figured this out eons ago - elegance beats elaboration every single time. The most powerful forces in the universe - gravity, love, time - they're all simple at their core.
So here's my question for you: what would your life look like if you trusted the simple way? Not the easy way, mind you - simple isn't always easy. But the clear way, the direct way, the way that doesn't require a manual.
Just keep livin' like the trees do.
Simple.
