What You Need to Know to Set Yourself Up for Success
Be like a postage stamp – stick to one thing until you get there – Josh Billings.
Are you feeling stuck and unsure of what to do next to set yourself up for success? You’re not alone. A lot of people find themselves in this position at one time or another in their lives. But don’t worry, there are steps you can take to get yourself on the right track. I’m not a guru, or an expert in any way – but I’ve learned a few things over the years that have helped me out, and I hope they can help you too. So here it goes:
1. Have a plan and be SMART about it: Specific (Specialize), Make it Achievable, Realistic (reasonable), Time Bound and Track your progress.
2. Know Your WHY: It is not enough to want something; you must know the reasons behind your goals and connect deeply with them on an emotional level.
3. Take Action: Studies show that successful people take more than unsuccessful people do—about twice as much! And they keep moving forward even when life gets in their way, or things get tough. Successful people tend to reframe these experiences positively rather than dwell on the negatives for too long when failures come up.
4. Prepare yourself mentally: It’s essential to have your ducks in a row before you start because you don’t want to get halfway there and then fail. When setting goals, be sure to prepare yourself mentally so that if something happens along the way, as life gets in the way or someone else fails you, you’ll know how to pick your butt back up and keep going!
5. Don’t Stress Yourself Out: Yes, it’s great to give 110% while working toward your goals, but it isn’t necessary at all times. To get things done effectively, remember that quality beats quantity every day of the week.
6. Know Your Limits: Everyone has limits no matter how hard they push themselves; successful people are better at recognizing when they need help or when they have to reach out to someone in their network for help.

7. Get help when you need it: Although, indeed, successful people often take matters into their own hands, when they do reach out for help, they don’t waste time beating around the bush. They ask directly and expect a direct response—no matter who is on the receiving end of their message.
8. Start Pushing Yourself: It may be uncomfortable at first, but that doesn’t mean you should stop; if anything, this should motivate you even more because once you get comfortable doing one thing, it’s only a matter of time; until you’re capable of much more!

9) Find your WHY: Knowing why we do what we do is crucial to succeeding, no matter how small or big the goal. It’s important to understand why you want to achieve something because it will help you get through the tough times, stay motivated and continue pushing yourself when things get tough.
10) Experiment with Your Goals: You don’t need to write your goals in stone; if an idea doesn’t work for you, scrap it! You can always test out different strategies until you find what works best for you.
11) Keep Improving: The key to success is consistency—the more you practice the things that work for you, the better you’ll get at them, and eventually, they’ll become second nature.
12) Stop Giving Up: Successful people often fall seven times, but they refuse to allow themselves to stay down.
13) Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket: Yes, it’s great to have a goal that you’re working hard toward, but don’t let this be the only thing you focus on during your journey to success. Successful people understand that life is unpredictable and try their best to prepare for all possibilities.
14) Remember the Basics: It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the latest and greatest strategies—but remember, some basics remain unchanged no matter what! As long as you continue honing these skills, you will always be one step ahead of your competition.
15) Don’t Give up When Things Aren’t Working Out The Way You Planned: Just because things didn’t go according to plan or you didn’t get the result you were expecting doesn’t mean that your goals are out of reach; it simply means that you need to keep trying until you find what works!
16) Take Responsibility for Your Actions: Don’t blame other people or external factors—this only holds you back. Successful people take responsibility for their actions and know when to apologize if they ever make a mistake.
17) Get More Sleep: Sleep is crucial; without proper rest, your physical and mental health will suffer immensely! If this sounds like something you need to work on yourself, be sure to check out our article on sleep hacks.
18) Stop Saying You’re Fine if You Aren’t: Everyone needs a little help from time to time, so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance if you need it!
19) Be Okay with Being Uncomfortable Sometimes: Successful people aren’t always comfortable but know what they have to do to achieve their goals. Instead of avoiding challenges, successful people are often the ones who invite them into their lives because these are the situations that truly test us!
20) Don’t Forget About Your Health: Succeeding doesn’t mean you can ignore your health—far from it! Find a healthy balance between your work and home life; without this, achieving success will become an even more difficult task than it already is.
21) Let Go of What Doesn’t Serve You: Just because something was a part of your past doesn’t mean you should hold on to it; if anything, this is an opportunity for self-growth and improvement.
22) Always Keep Learning: Successful people understand the importance of continuous learning—it’s not just about pursuing new information but also gaining a deeper understanding of what you already know!
23) Surround Yourself with Positive People: It can be tempting to surround yourself with like-minded people. Still, successful people understand that some individuals will only bring them down. Instead, they choose to spend their time around the ones who lift them and support their dreams no matter how unrealistic they may seem.
24) Stop Getting Caught Up in the Tiniest Details: It’s easy to get overwhelmed when working on a big project; however, successful people understand that it takes time to reach success and refuse to let the small things bother them.
25) Stop Changing Your Mind Every 5 Seconds: There will always be obstacles in your way, so stop wasting energy trying to think of every possible solution at once—just focus on one thing and give it all you’ve got!
26) Get Up Early: Successful people have a morning routine which means they wake up early regardless of how late they sleep.
27) Forgive Yourself for Past Mistakes: It’s never too late to turn things around for the better! Even if you’ve made some mistakes in your past, you still have time to become a better version of yourself.
28) Stop Wasting Time: Unless you’re spending quality time with family or friends, there is no reason why unnecessary activities should be taking up your valuable time.
29) Put an End to Negative Thinking Patterns: It sounds simple, but positive thinking goes a long way—never underestimate the power of self-fulfilling thoughts!
30) Take Calculated Risks: No one ever got anywhere by playing it safe all the time; successful people know when to take smart risks to gain something truly worthwhile.
31) Be Prepared for Setbacks: Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from chasing your dreams; instead, learn how to bounce back after experiencing a setback and continue on your path toward success.
32) Have the Courage to Make Decisions: Whether it’s an important life-changing decision or something as simple as choosing between muffins and donuts for breakfast, successful people know that taking responsibility is necessary to make progress in their lives.
33) Take Care of Your Relationships: When it comes down to it, successful people understand that our interpersonal relationships are just as important as our ones—without these connections, we’re nothing!
34) Get Out of Your Comfort Zone: Yet again, achieving success also involves stepping outside of your comfort zone—believe us, it’s worth it!
35) Give Back to Your Community: Embrace the fact that your success is a part of something greater than yourself. There are countless organizations dedicated to helping those in need, so don’t be afraid to support them by becoming more involved!
36) Take Responsibility for Your Actions: Successful people know that no one else is responsible for their happiness but themselves.
37) Don’t Make Excuses: Even if something doesn’t work out as planned, successful people understand that excuses are going to get them anywhere.
The most important thing to remember is that no one has it all figured out and you don’t have to do everything at once. Take your time, set small goals, and be patient – Rome wasn’t built in a day! There is no one right way to go about it, but if you can keep these things in mind and tailor them to your own situation, you are well on your way! Remember that it takes time and effort to build a successful business, so don’t give up if things don’t happen overnight. Be patient and consistent, and before you know it you will be reaping the rewards of all your hard work. What strategy are you going to use to set yourself up for success?
