Why Gratitude Is The Most Important Habit Of All
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself-Tecumseh
I used to think that the most important habit was being productive. I would try to do a million things every day, and if I couldn’t cross everything off my list, then I felt like a failure. But eventually, I realized that productivity isn’t what matters most in life. What really matters is how we approach our lives, and whether or not we are grateful for what we have. Gratitude is the most important habit of all, because it allows us to appreciate the good in our lives and focus on what’s important. When we focus on the positive, we can find happiness even in difficult times. And that’s something worth striving for.
It is feasible to enter a state of thankfulness at any moment. So, why do we find it so difficult? It’s usually because we forget or let our ego get in the way and focus too much on ourselves that we have trouble being considerate to others.
The general belief is that an active state of gratitude should be simple to maintain, yet even if we intend to feel grateful all day, we frequently become disgruntled, entitled, or irritated throughout our hectic routines.
Remembering that you can’t be grateful and dissatisfied at the same time is a powerful secret to maintaining an appreciative attitude.
It’s crucial to keep in mind that, when we are stressed and overwhelmed, it isn’t because we have failed a gratitude challenge; it’s because we forgot and allowed our ego mind to take over. It enjoys finding excuses to be dissatisfied, irritated, envious of others, or feeling deserving of more.

There’s another secret – humility.
Humility and gratitude have a lot in common. What’s the connection between humility and appreciation? Everything – when you’re humble, your ego practically vanishes, allowing it to take a nap in the back seat so you can stop squabbling with it for control of the wheel.

When you can quiet the voice of your ego, you enter the world from a new perspective. It drives out notions of entitlement and deserving in favor of focusing on the good things that happen to us.
The third secret is to simply practice compassion. We can easily succumb to forgetfulness because we are so focused internally on ourselves and our own issues that we fail to look up and notice how our actions impact others.
