Why Most People Fear Failure and What You Can Do To Overcome It
Most of my regrets—things I wish I’d done, things I wish I’d said, stands I wish I’d taken—have one thing in common: Fear. We worry about what will happen if… But Marcus Aurelius has the answer: “You’ll meet tomorrow with the same weapons you have now.” I should have quit certain jobs sooner, I should have come out and said what I thought more clearly, I should have believed that I’d figure out how to get through it, even if things went wrong. – Ryan Holiday
Standing at the edge of his career, Sean was terrified. He had done everything he could to make sure this would work out for him. His company’s success depended on it. The last thing that they needed was more mistakes by their resident techie genius.
Sean walked into his office with a new sense of fear. He was scared to make the wrong decision and end up like all the others who had made mistakes in their lives. For him, it wasn’t just one mistake that would ruin everything; no, every small error would be the nail in his coffin. It would spell disaster for everything he’s tried so hard to build over these years. But Sean was not alone-he knew he had help.
There are always people around him to guide him through every difficult time of life–to teach him how to think appropriately about any situation before jumping into it headfirst, just as they had done for many other successful professionals throughout history.
All this knowledge seemed straightforward enough on paper but proved extremely difficult in practice. It’s one thing to read about it and another altogether to experience it firsthand.
One night, Sean met friends for a drink after work at their favorite bar around the corner from his office when he found himself staring into an empty glass of beer. All those years of fear had caught up with him and taught him what life would be like if he let this moment pass by without learning from it-if, he allowed fear to win once again. He knew that tomorrow wouldn’t look as bright as today because every day, there will come a time where your mind starts playing tricks on you–trying desperately hard not to feel so alone anymore. Still, despite this knowledge, he acknowledges that all of these dreads have been experienced by others far wiser than himself.
We’ve all been there. There’s a list of things we don’t want to do, and there’s a feeling of fear whenever we come up against one of them.
Fear is a natural part of life. We all experience fear at one point or another, and it can be helpful in some ways. Fear can motivate us to take steps to avoid danger – like backing away from the stove when we think we smell gas – and also prompt us to seek out new experiences that may lead to fulfilling relationships and career opportunities. Fear, on the other hand, may become overpowering at times, preventing us from making positive changes in our lives that would benefit ourselves and others around us.
You’re not alone in your dread of failure, and this is the most prevalent worry that people have, and it’s completely natural.
You may even believe you’re powerless. because of this fear. What if I told you that there was another approach to overcome fear? What would happen if YOU overcame this fear?
You deserve to be happy, but many times our fears keep us from happiness. Fear has a way of controlling us and making it difficult for us to think clearly or make decisions about our lives – including how we want them to turn out!
So let’s talk through some different things that may help you beat your worst fears (and start living a remarkable life).
Remind yourself that everyone feels this way
No one is exempt from learning to overcome the dread of failure, no matter how accomplished you are! Every single person has had to fight through it at some point in their life–and they have succeeded just the same as anyone else would have, despite feeling like they couldn’t do anything about it. You can overcome your fears and live an extraordinary life too-no matter who you are or what’s holding you back from success!
If there is someone out there living an extraordinary life with little stress and anxiety, then they haven’t been faced with the challenges we all have. This person might not feel so lucky after being hit by those “challenges” head-on… The unpleasant fact is that many people are unwilling to accept their fears. They’re too busy thinking they’ve got it all together to realize what’s going on within them and the fact that they have a lot of work ahead of them before achieving anything truly great
You might feel like you don’t deserve success or happiness because your fear tells you otherwise, but know that these feelings aren’t real! It is simply one aspect of who YOU are.–the more dominant side winning out over another less prominent instinct inside yourself. This isn’t something to be ashamed about at all-it means you haven’t found a way around it yet. There is always some reason for this feeling being so decisive – maybe there was an experience from childhood? Your family life growing up? Your past relationships? There’s a reason why you feel the way you do, and it has nothing to do with you.
Don’t be so hard on yourself if these emotions surface. -it means that there is still something to learn from the situation, which will help you avoid experiencing failure in future problems! You can always find success with trying again – because everyone has failed before (even if they won’t admit it). I mean, we all know how much people lie about their failures… remember Bill Gates telling us, “I failed many times”? It’s true, though: even he was scared at one point but didn’t let fear get the best of him by giving up too early. Instead, he kept going until his vision became a reality.
We have to learn from our mistakes when we fail so that next time, when it’s time for us to try again – WE WILL SUCCEED! This is what I want you to take out of this post today–the fact that there are always options in life, and by opening yourself up to failure, you will be able to experience success later on down the road.
No one person ever has all the answers-we have different experiences based on how well versed we are with overcoming fear. The bottom line is that we don’t know it all. everything there is to know about anything, and no one does because there’s too much information for any individual (or group) of people at any given time or throughout history…to comprehend.
The next time you’re having trouble achieving something, remember this: everyone starts somewhere, and there is always some advice out there to help you along the way! The more open-minded we are about learning new things, the easier it will be for us to grow as individuals (and achieve anything in life!)
Many people may seem fearless on the outside, but they feel just as scared or even worse than you do! The truth is that many people are living in denial about their fears. They’re too busy thinking they’ve got it all together to realize what’s going on within them and the fact that they have a lot of work ahead of them before achieving anything genuinely great.
You might feel like you don’t deserve success or happiness because your fear tells you otherwise, but know that these feelings aren’t real! It is just one part of your psyche that is overwhelming you with this fear. This part of your mind is trying to protect you, but it’s overcompensating and causing more harm than good because there are no real dangers present in the situation at hand.
You can start addressing these fears by not listening to them so much! By paying attention to what they’re saying, we validate their existence which gives them power over us…we empower our own worst enemy by believing every word coming out of our mouths (or minds). Don’t take life too seriously – nobody has all the answers or knows everything about anything on the first try, even though some may seem like they do now. Everyone starts somewhere; everyone fails before succeeding…but those who keep pushing succeed.
Don’t be fooled by the “know-it-alls” you may encounter in life, either – they are just as afraid of failure and rejection as you are! This is why they act so confidently to cover up what’s going on inside them…so instead of letting fear control your destiny forever, stop listening to it now before it takes over completely! The next time you’re feeling down about attempting something new or unusual, try not to think about whether or not others will say anything wrong about you if you fail horribly at it. The chances are that no one cares how terrible (or excellent) a job you do with an activity outside your comfort zone. They have their own issues to deal with!
The only way you can discover yourself is by taking risks…so take them now before it’s too late! If you fail today, try again tomorrow but never give up on trying something new because there are so many possibilities for success waiting ahead of us when we don’t let fear hold us back anymore.
It’s all about perspective. Even if you fail, there are so many lessons to be learned and chances for growth. Now that I know this, my fears have melted away. What do you think? Do you still feel afraid to take risks in your life? It will be hard at first but the more you focus on your goals, the easier it becomes to overcome this fear of failure and live a life where you are free from regret. You have what it takes! You can do it. Your future is waiting for you and all the hard work will be worth it in the end!
